Where To Wander With Kids

Summer may finally be upon us (save for a few rain showers here and there), and this gives many parents ideas of getting away for a family break. Whether it’s in the same country that you’re residing in now, on the continent or even a slightly longer plane journey to get to where you need to be, it’s that sense of relaxation that you need; that you’re entitled to; that you deserve. You may have kids coming with you, but pick up on their excitement and you’re sure to have a whale of a time.

Keeping It Local = Keeping It Cheap

There are so many ways to holiday in the UK when you’re on a low budget. Signing up to be members of the National Trust may seem like a big initial outlay, but it’s something that could be saving you hundreds of pounds across the space of a year. You don’t even have to worry about the child aspect of it all and whether these places are kid-friendly - a lot of them have resources there to help educate and entertain your children. Stately homes usually have grounds where you can take a picnic and have a good run around (amazing for wearing them out!), and it’s within these homes that they often have relics relating back to the children that used to live there. Who doesn’t love a good bit of dressing up?

Step Further Away From Local…

The great thing about the UK at the moment is that its transport links are enviable - especially around the cities. Getting into places like London and Edinburgh has never been easier, and the public transport once you’re in is second to none. Links out of the cities are also working their way up, although it’s obviously better if you can drive to access anywhere you want in little time. Pick a place in the country (a country maybe, like Devon or Yorkshire) to drive around and commit your time to it; there’s a lot to be learned. Even the cuisine can differ dramatically.

Going Abroad

If you’re planning something further afield, like America, you will need to have a visa or ESTA in place from official-esta.com to allow you to stay there for a period up to 90 days as a tourist. These bits of paperwork can be an unnecessary stress if you haven’t thought about them before, but are quite simple to do - especially as they can be done online. You will need to think about the change in climate and pack accordingly (always remember to pack extra of whatever you’ve actually put in).

Keeping On The Continent

Europe is fantastic in that you are able to access practically any of it by rail. This is good for the children that aren’t too good at staying in one place during turbulence, take-offs and landings, and can have a wander up and down the train at their leisure. Getting a Eurostar from one of the terminals in and around London can see you in a place such as Paris in less than 2 hours. How about that? One day, we plan on taking than to Disneyland Paris and think this would be a great way to do it.
