4 ways to look after your wellbeing every day

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about well-being. As a mum, it’s all too easy to put everyone else’s needs ahead of your own. I do it all the time. It’s a mixture of necessity and willingness; I like caring for my family and obviously my boys need me. But I know I become a shouty mum when I feel like I’ve had no time for myself (I mean, even right now I am writing this whilst simultaneously feeding Sullivan Marmite on toast). Such is the juggling act of parenthood, and of being a working mum.

Finding time for yourself is so important and I’m trying to carve out little spaces of time to do something just for me. However little, creating opportunities can be easier than you first think, and are so very important.

1. Use the post-school run as a chance to catch up on your favourite podcast or listen to an audiobook or your favourite playlist

I have really got into audiobooks over the past six months and the bits of my commute after the school run is done is actually one of my favourite times now. Listening to a story (I particularly like autobiographies and guides) is a good way to pass the time and I’ve learnt a lot and felt like I’ve been able to indulge my interests more. Beats listening to Hey Duggee on repeat on Spotify (although I do love a bit of Duggee...).

If you walk, you could do the same with headphones.

2. Carve out some ‘me’ time, even if it's when you're cooking dinner

I cook or prepare dinner for us every day, starting as soon as we all get in the door. Ste keeps an eye on the boys and I put something on Netflix to watch whilst getting the food ready. It’s become a regular slot in my schedule to catch up and enjoy something that I want to, and the rest of my family certainly would not.

3. Get up 10 minutes earlier

Hard to do if you aren’t a natural early riser, but an extra 10 minutes in the morning can make all the difference. It could mean you drink a cup of tea, and I mean the WHOLE cup of tea, whilst it's still hot. Or you could squeeze in a spot of yoga, read a book, or enjoy a more leisurely shower or bath, to prepare for the day ahead.

And if you don't get the time in the morning, take it once the kids are in bed - you deserve it.

Part of my weekly routine, to bring some calm and create a space just for me, is a local yoga class. I haven't been able to make it as often as I'd like but intend on changing that. And part of this regular spot of relaxation is the DE-STRESS Scentered Balm (RRP: £14.50).

Recommended as a "soothing blend to help you juggle more throughout your day, keeping you calm and in control", this balm is just divine and has become part of my yoga and evening relaxation routines.

Blended with Chamomile to promotes calmness, uplifting and relaxing Neroli and Mandarin to help soothe tension and support feelings of well-being, it is a 100% natural, essential oil based Aromatherapy Balm which is so easy to use, if you follow the Scentered Wellbeing Ritual:

  • Stop - Apply a balm directly to your wrist, neck and temples or light a Scentered candle to purposefully fill the room with mindful meaning.
  • Inhale – Raise your wrists or candle to your nose and deeply inhale, visualising the mind state you wish to achieve in this moment.
  • Reset – Exhale deeply as you step into the next moment of your daily journey.

I've really enjoyed using this balm and do feel calm when breathing in its scent. There's several other balms in the range too, so different options to consider and something easy to pop in your handbag for a little moment of relief and calm.

4. Help yourself from the inside out

I am going through some treatment at the moment and the medication I am taking is an immunosurpressant and as a result, I have wanted to give myself a boost. Taking a supplement of some kind can be really beneficial, and since the start of the year, I have added to Lumity supplements my morning and evening routine to try and give my body a helping hand - particularly my skin and energy levels.

Lumity's Morning & Night natural women's supplements (£75 for a single purchase, or £65 for a subscription) are designed to deliver maximum results for health and beauty with minimum effort. The advanced formula promises "a two-step powerhouse blend of high-quality omegas, minerals, vitamins, and essential nutrients which grants infinite anti ageing benefits", with said benefits including:

- Reduced tiredness and circadian rhythm support
- Firmer, youthful-looking skin
- Stronger, glossier hair and nails
- Boosted energy and vitality
- Reduced oxidative stress
- Immune resilience and enhanced brain function
- More energy

The capsules are easy to swallow, which is always important for me, and there is one pack for mornings and a second to take in the evening, both with a different blend. The presentation box and beautiful glass, refillable containers are just stunning and I have really enjoyed the Lumity range. You might want to see my Lumity cleanser and facial oil reviews too, as this brand really does love you from the inside out.

* I was gifted the supplements from Lumity and the balm from Scentered in return for honest reviews - all comments and opinions are my own.
