Home update #2 - our living room makeover #BloggerHomes June
I've teased this for long enough so now is the time for the big lounge reveal!
The first May Bank Holiday, we had a week off and decided to finally overhaul our tired, dated lounge after almost 10 years. It's also the biggest property refurbishment project we have ever done, as it was more than just a bit of paint needed.
The main issue was the old gas fire and the accompanying stone surround that took up the most part of the big main wall. We tried to work around it and ignore it altogether but finally, we paid a tradesman to come in and rip it out once and for all.
And boy, did it make all the difference.
Removing this altogether gave us the chance to rethink the layout of the whole living room. We decided to use the main wall to position all our storage furniture - the big Kallax entertainment unit and smaller matching units from IKEA either side - to create the focal point.
A splash of colour behind to make a bold statement and make the room feel bright and modern; we went for Golden Rays from B&Q in the end.
We left the sofa in the same position but could now move the leather wingback armchair. In putting the majority of our furniture / items on the two main, opposing walls, we created more floor space and whilst our lounge isn't large, it does feel bigger now the space is more open and there's less clutter here and there.
New blinds - with clever magnetic poles inside so they can be risen with ease - opened up the window and they let more light in and look clean and unfussy.
Add new wall lamps, two pouffe seats, new fabric IKEA boxes, three grey rugs, a multi-way coffee table and a new wall hanging composition, and it's hard to believe that this is the same lounge.
A month in, I still look around the room with a smile on my face.
Combined with our hallway makeover, we were shattered after two solid days working on the house but were so pleased to have made such a difference.
As with my hallway tour, I'm giving you a bit of a tour below then will follow up soon with posts on how to create a modern scandi look along with my favourite picks from a couple of shops where we found most of our new bits and bobs.
Just a quick reminder of what the lounge looked like before:
Without further ado, come in, sit down, and enjoy our new look living room...
I love how bright the room now feels and the storage efficiently keeps a ton of toys at bay, but still close by. This means that we keep clutter under control but also Ethan can freely play while can do our own thing too.
I've got a few finishing touches to share with you so more on what we did coming soon...
