If you go down to the woods today...

If you go down in the woods today you're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today you'd better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic

Every Teddy Bear who's been good is sure of a treat today
There's lots of marvellous things to eat and wonderful games to play
Beneath the trees where nobody sees they'll hide and seek as long as they please
That's the way the Teddy Bears have their picnic

Picnic time for Teddy Bears
The little Teddy Bears are having a lovely time today
Watch them, catch them unawares and see them picnic on their holiday
See them gaily gad about
They love to play and shout
They never have any cares
At six o'clock their Mummies and Daddies will take them home to bed
'Cause they're tired little Teddy Bears

I wrote a few weeks ago about how we've started thinking about Ethan's first birthday and how we might want to celebrate. We've since been to another baby's first birthday and in some ways, it's helped me decide what's best to do.

As I said before, aside from the yummy mummy's group we went to and Ethan's nursery friends, we don't have any friends with babies or young children, so the majority of the people who would come to his first birthday party are adults. It's easy enough to cater for both in terms of food but with entertainment, it's a bit trickier as a children's party isn't such a fun place if you haven't BYOB (brought your own baby!).

Hubs and I have given it a lot of thought and at the moment we're thinking of maybe hosting two separate celebrations. Either that or have the babies come for the first couple of hours in particular then the rest of our family and friends after this / for the rest of the afternoon. Or perhaps we just don't do anything for the babies and just keep it close family and friends?

I thought I said I was getting clearer on it all...!

The idea I'm working on is a teddy bear's picnic theme. I love the idea of gathering up picnic blankets, a basket full of bite-size food and heading outdoors into the sunshine (crossed fingers) for an afternoon at the park. We live close to Sutton Park and there's so many different areas we could go to, including a couple of cafe shops we could be sat close to for convenience.

Ethan's first birthday falls on Bank Holiday Monday this year so we need to make a decision soon. The picnic would be a lovely, minimum fuss idea where people could join us when they can, but it does all depend on the great British weather...

Here's some of the inspiration I've been gathering - you can follow my party ideas on Pinterest here.

Am I just over-complicating things a bit? How did you plan your child's birthday party to cater for both little ones and adults?

  2. What a fab theme! How lucky that it falls on a bank holiday too :-) and don't worry, you're not over complicating it - planning kids parties can be very stressful!!

    1. Thanks Georgie! I'm really excited about the theme - it's quite easy to do and is rather fun. I think I've found a compromise for the party so hopefully I'll stop over-thinking it and will be able to make plans soon!
